Welcome February 2024, hello to my second monthly project for the new year!

Hello, my name is Melanie and in 2024, I committed to doing something new (to me) each month of the year. It can be a new skill, a new habit to learn or unlearn, or a new place for me to explore. I’m naming my blog “Something Active, Something Creative” to give you an idea of things I’d like to venture into this year. In January, I worked on unlearning a habit which I will write about on another post! In February, I’m launching this blog to document my experiences as I embark on these projects. Working on a blog or website is new to me and I hope to develop new skills associated with it.

If you are curious about this mushroom on the photo above, it is called Tremella or Tremella fuciformis, also known as Snow Fungus, WhiteΒ  fungus or White Jelly Leaf Mushroom. I found this mushroom when my friend and I hiked along Folsom Lake near Granite Bay, California two weekends ago.

Tremella mushrooms supposedly have medicinal properties and are used in beauty products and as food. Its gelatinous texture indicates it holds a large amount of moisture. I am attracted to its beautiful form and color and would like to know more about it!

    1. Thanks Ana! Aren’t they beautiful? I saw on my internet search that they also come in white. I have to find out if this yellow color is its early stage or a totally separate variety.
